I will be introducing some of the webtools that may be beneficial for teachers and students as a series under the title ‘Teaching On – Line’. I hope you like it.
Second life is an online 3-D virtual world where can people create their own world. Sometimes it is thought to be a game application but, the truth is not like that. There is no mission to complete or level to upgrade. It is just a place where you can have fun while creating your own virtual world. In Second Life, all of the objects and places are originated from the real world. Your avatar can do a lot of stuff such as eating, talking, shopping, and going to school, like in the real world. So, if we come to the point how Second Life helps teachers, here is the answer for you.
As I mentioned before, in Second Life we can do nearly everything that we do in our real lives. Since going to school is one of the things that all of the people do, we can carry our classes to the Second Life. It will be a really interesting and fascinating experience for most of the students because especially in our community it is not common to have virtual classes with avatars that we create with this application. It will be a great chance for the teachers to grab their students’ attention and increase the comprehension.
